Film finished!

Today was the deadline for our film to be completed and we successfully finished the film last friday, and we are quite pleased with the end result.

We decided that putting a striking effect on over around half of our film was the best way to go, as now we think our film is more of a 'psychological' film which is what we were first aiming for. We will soon be uploading and evaluating our film on the blog.

Evaluation 3 (Josh)

3. Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our target audience is teenagers and young adults. This is because we feel that we know what can scare them, as we are teenagers ourselves so we have valid experience of this audience. From looking at our IMDB reasearch we concluded that the alot of people that watch horror films are aged between 18-29 year olds and are male.

I personally think that one of the reasons this group is the biggest because men want to see if they can scare themselves. Of course this is one suggestion as to why that is the biggest category, There will be many more reasons/motives of why men aged 18-29 watch horror films. It is from having this information that we decided to include 18-29 year olds in our target audience. Here is a bar chart from IMDB that shows the reasons behind why we chose this target as our target audience.

Another Filming session..

This week we filmed again and once again we are not happy with the results, so we plan to film again this next week, perhaps in the dark. We plan to maybe change afew things from our first film we posted on the blog, So we will post to the blog next week when we have new footage.

Evaluation 2 (Liam)

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The main forms and conventions that are used in horror films are usually a female victim, a male 'monster', night time and a feeling of solitude. We conformed with 3 out of these 4, but decided to challenge the 'darkness' convention. This was mainly due to it being difficult to make the film dark but still keep the quality of the footage.

We went with the girl victim one her own as this makes the audience feel like something will happen as she is very vulnerable. This convention has been used in many films, including Halloween.

Evaluation Introduction (Liam)

1. Introduction: What did you make, who did you work with and where did the original idea come from?

For our 'horror film' project we decided to make a psychological film. We researched this by watching a number of current psychological films e.g. Paranormal Activity, and also some older ones such as The Shining and Sixth Sense. These gave us a few ideas but we tried to make our idea more original so it doesn't really relate to any of these. It has been questioned whether our film is psychological or not but we are hoping that the end product will be.

Our production has gone well, we have been out filming twice so far and we don't think any more footage is needed. We worked with two of our friends, Sophie and Francesco, who are the two actors in the film and we feel they did a very good job as we all got along but they took their roles seriously at the same time.

Our film so far...

We have been out filming once and we have now edited the footage that we filmed.
This is a rough outline of what we want our ideal film to look like.
We are sure that we will have to film gain as we need a better variety of shots and we also had problems with the lighting.
We think we will be filming sometime next week, so we can get some better quality footage.
